Park Entrance Fee: Appomattox Court House National Historical Park charges a $3.00 entrance fee [subject to change]. The National Park Pass provides admission into any National Park requiring an entry fee.
Start times: The Parkway Grocery is open Monday - Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Sunday: 7:00: a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is open daily from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Check with the Ranger for alternative parking if you will not finish the walk before 5:00 p.m. Gates are locked on time.
Event description: The trail is 10 km (6.2 miles). Rating is 2. The trail is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. The trail is along established park trails and roads. Carry water. Trail is about 50% in the woods. Walk the old country lanes where Robert E. Lee, Commanding General of the Army of Northern Virginia, surrendered his men to Ulysses Grant, General-in-Chief of all United States forces, on April 9, 1865.
Award and fees: The award is a 100% embroidered patch as pictured above ($7.00). Credit only is $3.00.
Directions: From Lynchburg, Virginia follow US Route 460 East to Appomattox. From Petersburg, Virginia follow US Route 460 West to Appomattox. Take By-Pass (not business route) at Appomattox and, following signs to Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, turn onto Route 24E. The Parkway Grocery is approximately 0.2 miles on the left. You will register at the Grocery and then drive to the Park to begin the walk.

Comments: Walk only during daylight hours. Water and restrooms are available at the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park [restroom is NOT available at Parkway Grocery]. Pets are welcome in the park, with pooper-scooper, and must be on a leash at all times .
