Start times: The Visitors Center is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Visitors Center is closed Thanksgiving.

Event description: The trail is suitable for strollers, not wheelchairs, and is along city and residential streets and parks. Many historical buildings are along the route. Shops/Restaurants are available at Market Square.

Award and fees: The award is a 100% embroidered patch as pictured above ($7.00). Credit only is $3.00. Wilderness Road -- Virginia's Heritage Migration Route. Blaze your own trail at WildernessRoadVA.org

Directions: From I-81 in Virginia, Exit 143 onto US 581 South. Exit 5, to light at Wells Avenue. Continue straight and take next right onto Shenandoah Avenue to Visitor's Center in the Station located on the left.

From 460 East [Orange Avenue], take right on Williamson Road; or from 460 West take left at Williamson Road going towards the Civic Center to traffice light at Wells Avenue. Go to the next right on Shenandoah.

From US 220 North, which becomes I-581, Exit 6, Vinton and Rt 24, up ramp to Elm Avenue and take left on Elm and first right on Williamson Road. Go straight passing Bullit, Franklin, Campbell, Salem, up over the bridge getting into the left lane. At left signal, turn on Wells Avenue, go to traffic light, turn left on Jefferson one block, turn left on Shenandoah to Visitors Center.

Parking is available in front of the Visitor's Center.

Water and restrooms are available at the Visitor Center.

Several restaurants and shops are available along the trail.

Pets are not allowed inside the Visitor Center. Pets must be leashed at all times.
